Siruvani Dam water level rises to 16.68 feet

Coimbatore: The water level of Siruvani dam has risen to 16.68 feet due to recent rains in the Siruvani dam area. Siruvani Dam is located in Palakkad, Kerala.

Siruvani water is considered to be the main source of water for the people of Coimbatore. The Siruvani Dam supplies drinking water to 36 wards and hundreds of roadside villages in Coimbatore.

The Siruvani Dam can hold 22.47 sq km of water. The dam is 49.53 feet high and 878.5 meters above sea level. With a water capacity of 650 million cubic feet. The water level of the dam has been declining due to lack of rain in the catchment areas of the dam since the onset of the monsoon last March. The water level of the dam fell below 15 feet. Meanwhile, the water level of the dam has been rising due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of the dam for the past few days.

Corporation officials said, "80 MLT of water is being taken from Siruvani for drinking water on behalf of the corporation and hence drinking water shortages are unlikely. The water level of the dam is now 16.68 feet, which earlier dropped below 15 feet."
