May 26 to be observed as Black Day: Trade Unions


Coimbatore:The All Farmers' Union Coalition which has been fighting for the past six months to demand the repeal of new agricultural laws in Delhi has decided to observe May 26 as the 'Black Day of Indian Democracy' since it was the day that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn in. The Central Trade Unions in Delhi and the Tamil Nadu Trade Unions have joined hands with the farmers to participate in the protest.



May 26 has been decided to be observed as a 'Black Day' by the trade unions who will hoist the 'black flag' in front of all the trade union offices in Coimbatore and in front of the houses of the members of the Upper Trade Unions in Coimbatore, emphasizing the following demands as to the implementation of the above decision in the Coimbatore district as well.

They demanded the following from the Central Government:

1. Ensure free vaccination for all Indians. Take immediate action to vaccinate everyone in Coimbatore district during the war.

2. Grant Rs. 7,500 per month with free food grains to all workers who lost their jobs due to Coronavirus.

3. Repeal three agricultural laws in response to the sentiments of the struggling peasants.

4. Withdraw all four packages of labor law against workers which favor big employers and corporates.

5. Immediately drop the Electricity Act Amendment and the Motor Vehicle Law Amendment.

6. Stop streamlining and privatising public sector companies.

7. The Coimbatore District Administration should set-up Covid-19 Vaccination Centers in 100 wards of Coimbatore and start vaccinating immediately. Take action on a wartime basis to vaccinate in all primary health centers in the district.

8. Fix shortcomings, lessen wait time for test results and increase beds to treat people affected with Covid-19.
