Coimbatore: Hours after many images of overcrowded attendants in Covid wards reportedly at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went viral on social media, a hue and cry is being raised among the public.
Coimbatore: Hours after many images of overcrowded attendants in Covid wards reportedly at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) went viral on social media, a hue and cry is being raised among the public. Official sources at CMCH dismissed the pictures as fake but has now restricted entry for attendants keeping in mind that they could be the 'super spreaders.'
An image of caregivers of patients sleeping together without masks and without social distancing at a time when the second wave is sweeping across Coimbatore district, went viral on WhatsApp and other social media. The image was being attributed to scenes at CMCH.
CMCH sources clarified to SimpliCity that the image was fake and not about the scenario in CMCH. However, following the example of other Government Hospitals in the State, CMCH has now restricted attendants from entering Covid wards.“We have been seeing attendants walking freely inside Covid wards and some even staying there with their infected relatives for more than one day. They fail to understand that they could become the 'super spreader' of the Covid-19 virus after going out from here,” stated a staff nurse working in the Covid ward.
While the CMCH management cannot ask all attendants to leave the Covid ward, it has decided to allow entry only to caregivers of patients who are critically ill. Theni Government Hospital Dean, Dr. Balajinathan also opined that most attendants seem to violate hospital rules by bringing in fast foods and processed foods to patients which is not healthy, and the go on to stay with them for long hours. The Dean felt that by restricting attendants from freely moving in Covid wards, the Covid-19 curve will straighten.
