Coimbatore: The idol of Goddess Corona Devi was consecrated at the 51st Shakti Peedam in Kamathchipuri, Coimbatore.
In a press release issued by Coimbatore Kamatchipuri Aadinam Shri Sivalingeshwara Swamigal, he said, " The virus called Covid-19 has affected people of all walks of life. Keeping that in mind, we have consecrated a new idol like the ones built more than 400 years ago called Plague Mariamman, Makaliamman and Mariamman when people were constantly in fear about the growing deaths due to Cholera and Plague.
These idols were built as many turn their faiths to god as their only source of hope. Trees like neema and other customs were worshipped at those difficult times which later turned into temple premises even though there was no earlier custom like that before.
Similarly an idol of Corona Devi is soon to be built following 48 days of Maha Yagam which will be a guide of hope during these difficult times. Devotees will not be allowed to attend this Maha Yagam with permission only for temple staff.
Praying to Corona Devi is as important as praying to Mariamman and Makaliamman in villages. This Maha Yagam will be conducted by following all Covid-19 guidelines like wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing as advised by the government." He said.
The Aadinam also said that Kabasuga Kudineer, face masks and food will be distributed to everyone in need across villages.
