People in panic as leopard enters house in Valparai
Coimbatore: Even as wildlife movement has increased in and around Valparai, in Coimbatore district, leopards have been spotted in neighbourhoods causing panic in locals.
At around midnight on Monday, a leopard reportedly jumped into Chinnammal's house in Valparai Kamarajar Nagar area, and broke roof tiles in the process. Chinnammal, who was sleeping with her daughter and son, reportedly ran from their bedroom, screaming in fright when the leopard landed atop them.
The leopard also reportedly thumped them when it fell into the house, thus causing a minor injury on Chinnammal's hand. Even as the three family members escaped into the kitchen, the leopard reportedly escaped by climbing out through the rooftop.
Manampalli Forest Officer, Manikandan, informed the Valparai Forest Department about the incident and inspected the scene. The near brush with a leopard in the locality has caused a furore among locals who have demanded that the forest department remove the thorn bushes near the residences where the leopard had been lurking and also to capture the leopard immediately. Chinnammal, who sustained the minor hand injury was treated at Valparai Hospital.
