Coimbatore: Request made to turn inoperative buses at sheds as temporary Covid-19 wards.
Consumer Awareness and Safety Organization Head NR Ravishankar sent an email to the TamilNadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. In his mail, he said, " We thank the government for implementing a 14-day full curfew to control the spread of Covid-19 infection. At present, victims of Covid-19 are facing a shortage of beds in hospitals for treatment.
During the first wave of Covid-19 pandemic last year, the Southern Railways turned train carriages into Covid-19 wards. With the re-emergence of the disease, work is underway on behalf of the Southern Railway to convert train compartments into Covid-19 wards.
At present, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has a large number of buses that have been parked at sheds uselessly as they are not functioning properly.
In a situation where there is a shortage of beds for Covid-19 treatment, these parked buses should be converted into Covid-19 wards. After that, buses converted into wards will have to be stopped at government hospitals and medical college campuses.
Covid-19 patients waiting in ambulances without beds available can be treated in wards set up on buses temporarily." He said.
