Video of uncovered corpses strewn on floor in makeshift shed near CMCH mortuary goes viral

Coimbatore: With the second wave of Covid-19 devastating different parts of the country, the number of Covid cases in Coimbatore district has been spiking with every passing day.

The average number of victims per day exceeds 2600 and it is reported that most died gasping for oxygen. Beds with oxygen availability in both public and private hospitals have reached their capacity.

It is also reported that the mortuary at the Coimbatore Government Hospital is overflowing with corpses and hence a temporary shed with tin sheets has been set up near the mortuary for the corpses of those who died due to Covid-19.

In a video footage that went viral, the corpses in the makeshift shed were seen strewn on the floor, with hospital staff seen handling the corpses without any protective clothing or gear. The footage has unnerved people.

Public have urged the hospital management to take appropriate action since the risk of infection from uncovered corpses could be fatal for the increasing number of relatives visiting the morgue to collect bodies of the deceased.
