Coimbatore: Welcoming the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin's announcement of Rs. 25 lakhs solatium to as many as 43 doctors’ bereaved families who had served in both Government and private treatment facilities, the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association said the move has come as a big relief at a time when the whole nation has been struck down by the second wave of Covid-19.
The Chief Minister on Wednesday announced Rs. 25 lakhs solatium to the bereaved families of 43 doctors who lost their lives fighting Covid-19 bravely while treating infected patients.
In a step to help and fuel confidence among the frontline staff working towards fighting the Covid-19 pandemic as well as preventing the loss of public life to the virus, which includes nurses and other staff, workers at CT scan centres, cleaners, ambulance drivers, CM M K Stalin announced incentives for them for three months - April, May and June.
For these three months, the Chief Minister announced an amount of Rs. 30,000 for doctors as incentive, while nurses and other remaining frontline workers will receive Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 each.
Speaking to SimpliCity, the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association's State General Secretary, Dr. N Ravishankar said the move by the CM of Tamil Nadu has come at the right time that their Association welcomes the move.
“We extend our support to the honourable CM M K Stalin and are so thankful for the move. Earlier, during the tenure of former CM Edappadi K Palaniswamy, the solatium to doctors’ families was fixed at Rs. 10 lakhs, and was reportedly increased to Rs. 50 lakhs. However, hardly two doctors’ bereaved families from the Association received the amount which was less than what was stated," stated Dr. N Ravishankar.
The CM's statement however makes no mention of any cover for police and local administration department officials whose are also on the frontline in the fight against Covid-19.
