Regional transport Officials inspected the buses at 11 pm yesterday nightnear Coimbatore Women's Polytechnic College in Bharathiyar Road, Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: As the first full curfew was announced today, those from other districts who were staying and working in Coimbatore left by bus for their hometowns.
Buses were operated on behalf of the State Transport Corporation till last night for this. While private and Omni buses were competing to pick up passengers yesterday, there were complaints to the authorities that some buses were overcharging and carrying too many passengers.
In this regard, Regional transport Officials inspected the buses at 11 pm yesterday nightnear Coimbatore Women's Polytechnic College in Bharathiyar Road, Coimbatore.
During the search, officials intercepted and searched an Omni bus carrying more passengers crammed on to each other. It was then revealed that the bus was carrying more than 70 passengers from Coimbatore to Bihar.
It was shocking that the passengers were charged Rs 4000 each to travel to their destinations. Officials then asked the passengers to get off the bus and the bus was confiscated for carrying more than limited passengers and for overpriced tickets.
Meanwhile, transport officials are simultaneously investigating all other buses which were travelling from Coimbatore.
As per the instructions of the state government, the district administration officials and health department officials are taking serious measures on a war-life basis to contain the Covid-19 spread. Public are scared of the cases will rise because of such incidents.
