Order to recruit former military doctors for Covid-19 duty
Coimbatore: The Ministry of Defense has directed the Directorate of Army Medical Services to re-select 400 doctors who served in the Army from 2017 to 2021 and appoint them on a contract basis for 11 months. They will be employed under the ‘Tour of Duty’ scheme.
The order issued yesterday states that the monthly salary can be determined by deducting the basic pension amount from the salary received at retirement. In the current Covid-19 situation, the Ministry of Defense has taken a number of steps, including sending additional troops to assist the local administration. The Army Medical Services Division has already sent additional doctors and additional paramedics to several hospitals, including specialists.
Doctors working in short-term have been given an extension of tenure till December 31, 2021. This will provide an additional 238 doctors to the Army Medical Services Division. The Army Medical Services Division will be further strengthened by the re-appointment of retired Army Doctors. Former Army doctors are involved in providing free medical advice on the e-Sanjeevani OPT site.
This service is available at esanjeevaniopd.in/. Contract staff have been temporarily hired to work night shifts for 3 months in 51 hospitals of the Ex-Servicemen's Contribution and Health Program (ECHS). They will take care of the officers receiving treatment and their families.
