Tirupur: Shakthi Subramaniam, President of the Theater Owners Association addressed the media at the premises of a private theater on Union Mill Road in Tirupur.

He congratulated the newly-elected DMK government saying, "Kalaingar had executed various welfare schemes for artists during the DMK regime. Since it will now be DMK leader M K Stalin's rule, we hope he will plan to improve the lives of screen artists."

"Soon there will be an appreciation ceremony organised by screen artists including the Theater Owners Association. Theatres have been heavily affected by the Covid-19 shut down. The livelihoods of the workers in the industry has been severely affected. We demand the abolition of property tax, labour tax and electricity tariff for the curfew period and the abolition of the 8 percent local tax levied only in Tamil Nadu, which will help in the reduction of ticket price," he said.

"Newly-elected MLA, Udhayanidhi Stalin is an actor and also a producer. We put forth these requests to him to help the Government understand our plight, since he is from the same industry," added Shakthi Subramaniam.
