In the case of land acquisition, Coimbatore Housing Board officials settle compensation of Rs. 1.28 crores to landowners
Coimbatore: Saraswathi Ammal (90) who hails from Pannimadai in Coimbatore district owns a land in Ganapathy which was acquired by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in 1983. With regard to this, the Court ordered the Housing Board to pay Rs. 69 lakhs as compensation. But since the Housing Board had delayed paying the compensation, on behalf of Saraswathi Ammal a case was filed at the second Additional Pro Court.
The Court ordered the Collector's Office to confiscate goods at the Housing Board if they failed to pay compensation by April 21.
In another case, Venkatesh and Sarojini of Avarampalayam were also not paid their compensation amount of Rs. 59 lakhs by the Housing Board. The Coimbatore District Collectorate had ordered the officials to confiscate the items at the Coimbatore Housing Board office.
Later, after the Coimbatore District Collector consulted with the officials of the Chennai Housing Board, the compensation was agreed to be paid in court.
Accordingly, the Coimbatore Housing Board officials handed over a check amounting to Rs. 1.28 crore to the landowners Saraswathi Ammal, Venkatesh and Sarojini in line with the Court order. Thus, the order issued by the Coimbatore Collector's Office for confiscation of goods of the Housing Board was squashed.
