Anamalai police arrested the gang smuggling rice from Pollachi to Kerala and handed them over to the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit.
Coimbatore:Anamalai police who received a tip off that ration rice was being smuggled to Kerala from Anamalai near Pollachi in Coimbatore district began to patrol near the Big Mosque area around midnight on Wednesday. During the patrol, they found a mysterious tempo in the area.
On searching the tempo, it was discovered that about 4.5 tonnes of ration rice was loaded in the tempo and was to be smuggled to Kerala. In this regard, the Anamalai police have arrested Rafeek (39) from Anamalai Gandhi Nagar, Mohammad Rafeek (29) from Pollachi Kannappan Nagar and Pakibhulla (44) from Anaimalai.
Police officials seized about 4.5 tonnes of ration rice, the tempo which was used for smuggling and 3 two-wheelers. They have handed over the case to the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit for further investigation.
