Plans are afoot to set up watch tower to control the crowds on the streets of Coimbatore

Areas include Crosscut Road, Town Hall, 100 ft road and Gandhipuram are shortlisted for the watch tower placements.

Coimbatore: The second wave of Covid-19 is spreading very active across the country. Up to 800 people are infected with Covid-19 infection daily in Coimbatore.

Various measures are being taken on behalf of the corporation and the district administration to control the spread of Covid-19.

Crowds are witnessed in the shops in Coimbatore during the holidays for wedding events and special occasions. Ahead of the full curfew that has been imposed on Sunday, there were many people seen crowding the shops on Saturday.

The corporation administration has advised people to avoid crowding to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus. But despite that, the crowd is getting out of control. So, Officers have been appointed zone-wise on behalf of the corporation to monitor the increase of positive cases and the other regulations.

In addition, monitoring has been intensified under the leadership of officials from various departments such as the Revenue Department and the Police Department Officials.

Accordingly, an awareness campaign is carried out through loudspeakers in vehicles to avoid crowds and adhere to the Covid-19 rules. Violators are also fined immensely. Even still, the crowd was a bit uncontrollable. So, a Watch Tower is planned to be set up like the last time to control the crowd in Coimbatore.

A corporation official said, "All textile shops, businesses and shops in the Coimbatore Corporation area are being urged to adhere to the government's guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection."

"Consumers should be constantly notified through loudspeakers and public meetings should be avoided to protect against corona infection. We are also advising shop owners and have planned to set up watch towers on the main streets to avoid crowds," he added.
