Coimbatore:The next phase of action will be taken in the case of seizure of counterfeit notes worth Rs 1.80 crore in Coimbatore, senior police officials said.
Udayam Perur police have arrested a few people in the last few days for circulating counterfeit notes within the boundaries of Coimbatore and Kochi in Kerala.
Meanwhile, on the basis of the information provided by them, the Udayam Perur police raided the Al-Amin Colony in the southern part of Coimbatore on the night of April 21.
1.80 crore worth of counterfeit notes were seized during the raid.
Kerala police arrested 4 people in this connection and took them away. Counterfeit notes were circulating in Coimbatore just as the apprehended persons were circulating counterfeit notes in Kerala, the investigation revealed.
Meanwhile, the Coimbatore Metropolitan Police came to know after a search by the Kerala police that a gang of counterfeit notes had ambushed the area and circulated the notes. The intelligence police also failed to gather information about the gang in advance. This has come as a shock to city officials. Following this, the Metropolitan Intelligence Police are investigating the activities of the counterfeit note gang.
Top police officials said the counterfeit note gang had been staying at this place for months. The intelligence officials have been ordered to collect details such as who their counterparts are and how many counterfeit notes are left in circulation by the gang in Coimbatore.
They are investigating accordingly. The senior officials said the next phase of action would be taken at the end of the investigation.
