Coimbatore: The livelihoods of construction and informal workers have been severely affected by the spread of the COVID-19 infection and the government has been asked to take action to provide subsidies.
According to Murugesan, Secretary of the Joint Action Committee of all Coimbatore Unorganized Trade Unions, construction and unorganized workers are suffering from a lack of employment opportunities as the spread of the disease is increasing day by day.
Owners claim that the sealing of brick kilns in this environment has led to a 100 per cent increase in prices. It is a fraudulent act of blaming and robbing the state. The livelihoods of construction workers are completely in question due to these problems.
Therefore, a tripartite meeting chaired by the District Collector should be held to reduce the price of bricks. In addition, the committee has requested that for the benefit of construction and informal workers, the government should provide Rs. 7,000 each as COVID-19 aid.
