Coimbatore: Police special team recently received a tip about Gutkha being sold in Annur, Coimbatore which is prohibited to use by Tamil Nadu Government. Due to this, police officials conducted a search at a shop belonging to Immanuel.
During the search, officials found Gutkha and tobacco weighing 35 kg hidden there. After further investigation, it was revealed that Bhoopalan from Annur near Mettupalayam sold Gutkha to him. Police immediately raided a godown belonging to Bhoopalan at Annur, Mettupalayam and found 950 kg of Gutkha hidden there and confiscated it.
Following this, the police officials arrested Bhoopalan. When he was questioned, it came to light that Kishore, a resident of the Somanur area next to Karumathampatti, had sold Gutkha to these two shops.
The police officials reached the grocery store run by Kishore, (42) near the Somanur bus stand and seized 1,700 kg of Gutkha hidden there. It was also revealed that Nandakumar (40) had stored Gutkha at a godown belonging to him. Hearing upon police's arrival, Kishore fled from the scene.
Police arrested Kanna Ram (20) from Rajasthan, who was working in the shop. Nandakumar, the owner was also arrested. Police are conducting further investigation.
