Former MLA Arumugam demands tea estate administrations in Valparai to halt work by 1 pm on Saturday

Since the government has announced Sunday as a complete lockdown day, it is nearly impossible for the workers to get their basic needs.

Coimbatore: More than 50,000 workers are employed at the tea estates in Valparai, Coimbatore. Workers in these tea estates work from Monday to Saturday and on Sundays, they go out to buy household items such as rice, lentils, groceries and meat.

Since the government has announced Sunday as a complete lockdown day, it is nearly impossible for the workers to get their basic needs by Saturday.

Understanding the issue, Former Assembly candidate Arumugam filed a petition with the District Collector yesterday requesting the estate management to halt work at 1 pm on 24.04.2021 and give them that day's salary. This will enable the tea estate workers to buy their essentials before the Sunday lockdown on 25.04.2021.
