Traffic congestion near Siruvani Road in Coimbatore as a 100-year-old tree catches fire suddenly

A nearly 100-year-old Vagai tree on the side of the road in the Nallurvayal village area of Coimbatore Siruvani Road caught fire after being struck by thunder in heavy rain last night.

Tamil Nadu Meteorological Department Office has given a forecast that Coimbatore and The Nilgiris district will receive heavy rains for the next five days. Following that, Coimbatore witnessed heavy thunderstorms and a wild breeze yesterday night.



During this, a 100-year old Vagai tree was engulfed in flames by a lightning strike near the Nallurvayal field area of Siruvani Road, Coimbatore.

The locals informed the fire department and the rescue officials arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. But traffic in the area has been disrupted as a fire suddenly raged from the tree.

The tree burst into flames for more than 12 hours.



The firefighters rushed to the scene, but the tree suddenly collapsed and fell on the road.



Following this, the fire department is engaged in the task of removing the fallen tree on the road.

Although the people were happy upon seeing the rain for a few days, the locals from this area were terrified by the old tree suddenly catching fire. This has caused panic and fear among the people of the area.
