AITUC union files petition to District Collector for workers' protection against COVID-19 in the labour-rich Tirupur district

They have asked the companies to set up camps for the vaccination of workers.


Tirupur: The AITUC union have petitioned to the District Collector's Office to ensure protection for workers in the labour-rich Tirupur district against COVID-19 infections.

Lakhs of workers live in the Tirupur district, which is the hub of knitting companies. AITUC union have asked the respective companies to guarantee the supply of masks, gloves and handwashing soap to the workers who are employed in the factories. To ensure the safety of the workers in the current situation where the second wave of COVID-19 infection is likely to continue across the country, they have asked to set up special camps and to vaccinate workers.

The union has also said that action should be taken to provide part-time pay for non-working days to members of the ESI scheme in case of absence due to sickness.



The AITUC union has filed a petition with the Tirupur District Collector's office, demanding relief for unorganised workers registered with the welfare department.
