Social activists request immediate action to help save liontale monkeys from human conflict in Valparai

Passengers prone to accidents in Valparai with monkeys on the streets.

Coimbatore: More than 500 monkeys belonging to Liontale (Singaval) species, reside near the flower estate area near Valparai in Coimbatore.

Since the majority of trees have been chopped down from the forest zones, these Monkeys are now visiting the employees quarters near Pudhuthottam area and are creating a ruckus in the households.

Travelers visiting Valparai are seen dumping fruit and other food wastes on the roads. Monkeys are witnessed crossing the roads and running across highways to collect them.

This is proving to be fatal for both monkeys and public travelling two wheelers.

Social activists in the area have requested the government to come up with a solution for this issue, to prevent the deaths of these rare monkey species and to help pedestrians and public be safe without being prone to accidents.
