From April 19, Kerala makes e-pass mandatory for travellers from Tamil Nadu: Surveillance intensifies at Walayar border
Coimbatore: With the second wave of COVID-19 sweeping across India, COVID-19 restrictions have become stringent in most states. Kerala in particular has clamped down further restrictions on travellers. Permission has to be obtained through the government website to hold public functions, including weddings which can host only 75 to 100 people.
13,835 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Kerala, on Sunday. The State Government has intensified its efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections after recording this high.
13 check posts including Walayar and Velanthavalam have been closed and e-pass has been made mandatory for people going to Kerala via Coimbatore and RT PCR test is also being done.
Travellers who do not have e-pass are being sent back. Since the implementation of e-pass is from today, e-registrations are being done at checkpoints. The Kerala Police has stated that those who do not have the e-pass will be sent back from tomorrow. Those returning to Coimbatore from Kerala are also required to have an RT PCR certificate taken, within 48 hours.
Stranded motorists have requested that the tests should be done by assembling the public under shady areas to provide relief from the scorching heat.
