Immediate treatment of early COVID-19 symptoms can prevent fatality: CMCH Dean Nirmala

Immediate treatment of early COVID-19 symptoms can prevent fataltity

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Government Hospital's Dean Nirmala stated that the reason for most COVID-19 related deaths is due to late treatment. "We urge people with early symptoms of COVID-19 to avail timely treatment to avoid anycasualty or fatality," she added.

With COVID-19 infections sweeping across Tamil Nadu in the last two weeks, which indiacte a steep hike as compared to last year, fatalities are reported at 707 thus far. "These deaths were due to delayed treatment since the patients were admitted to the hospital after the infection had intensified.

A few die within 24 hours of being admitted. About 50 percent of deaths are due to late treatment. If you have symptoms of fever, cold, cough, sore throat, diarrhoea, headache or vomiting, you can avoid getting worse or even dying if you get admitted to a hospital immediately. The death toll in Coimbatore owing to COVID-19 is still low and hence with immediate treatment, fatality can be avoided.
