Young man on bail sets sister-in-law on fire over petty quarrel

Saravanampatti police have filed a case and arrested Kumaravelu who was on bail and remanded him to custody for setting his sister-in-law on fire.


Coimbatore: Kumaravel (32) of Lakshmi Nagar, Saravanampatti in Coimbatore who had been without a job for a while had killed his father with a blow to the head during a quarrel last year over money that he had demanded for his expenses.

Saravanampatti police had filed a case and arrested Kumaravel and remanded him in custody. Having been granted bail a few months ago, he worked as a painter from time to time. His elder brother Sakthivel and wife Sindhu who live in the same area had been quarrelling with Kumaravel over a gas cylinder that he had been demanding for the past few days.

Kumaravel who had gone to meet his brother on a motorcycle on Thursday evening to talk about the cylinder issue, got into an argument once again with Sakthivel and his wife. The enraged Kumaravel grabbed the petrol bottle from his mototrcycle and doused Sindhu with petrol and set her on fire. Sindhu reportedly ran out screaming for help.

Sindhu is being treated at the All Coimbatore Government Hospital and is in a critical condition. Saravanampatti police have registered a case and arrested Kumaravel.
