Residents protest in Coimbatore Air Force Naval Housing Unit as association cuts water supply

People suffer due to inadequate water supply in Coimbatore Air Force Naval Housing Unit.

Coimbatore: The Air Force and Naval Housing Unit has 372 houses in the Athipalayampirivu next to Ganapathy in Coimbatore.

The apartment has 272 apartment houses and 100 individual houses and is home to more than 5,000 people. The Residents Welfare Association, which used to be a combination of apartments and individual houses, split in 2018 for some reason, forming a separate association for the 272-apartment residential area and a separate association for the 100-individual house residential area.

It is alleged that the association with the individual houses collected a certain amount per month for each house for the maintenance work in the residential area as a whole, including the improvement of the drinking water, street lights. It is alleged that the amount collected by their association was given to another association.

The association's executives, who own 272 apartment buildings, have been doing public maintenance work, including water supply and electricity. This has been followed by forcing residents of 100 individual houses to pay their maintenance fees directly to their association. Residents of the area said that from time to time the residents' association with 272 flats refused supplying water to 100 houses as they refused to pay the maintenance.

The people of the individual residential area have suffered due to the suspension of water supply since last evening. Following this, the public gathered in front of the residential area this morning and lodged a complaint with the Saravanampatti police. Saravanampatti police, who immediately rushed to the spot. Inspector Tirupati negotiated and residents alleged it was wrong to stop the supply of water for use and ordered the water valve to be opened.

They all dispersed after being told that the problem could be solved by talking to the assistant commissioner's office. They then stated that they did not have enough space and economic facilities to set up a separate drinking water treatment plant for the individual residential area.
