'Here continues the tender government's achievements,' comments Kamal Haasan on wall collapse incident in Coimbatore

MNM President Kamal Haasan also questioned why there is no warranty for Crores-worth constructions while the electronics we buy have warranties.

Coimbatore: Kamal Haasan, President of Makkal Needhi Maiam and the Coimbatore South candidate in 2021 elections, has blamed the ruling government for using poor quality materials in the Smart City project which has led to the fall of the 12 ft high barrier built on the banks of the Coimbatore Periyakulam during the rains last night.

He also slammed the 'tender government' for building dams that tear down in six months, hospitals that collapse when completed, and the walls of mini-clinics that collapsed during opening ceremonies.

MNM President Kamal Haasan also questioned why there is no warranty for the constructions that have been tendered in crores, while the electronics we buy have warranties. He asked, "How many officers have been punished or questioned for their mistakes so far?"

Kamal also criticised the government and said, "The collapsed wall is an example of the showpiece buildings that the current government has made. They were built without basic amenities. The construction works done during the last 5 years must be inspected to save lives in the future," he added.

Yesterday, due to the heavy rains in Coimbatore, the wall built under the Smart City project near Periyakulam lake in Ukkadam collapsed. It has created chaos in the city.
