Roads in Coimbatore flooded due to Wednesday's heavy rains

Roads in Coimbatore were flooded due to last night's heavy rains

Coimbatore: Roads in Coimbatore have been flooded owing to last night's heavy rains. Water was seen stagnating in many places including the railway station, Ukkadam and Mettupalayam road causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

Coimbatore received moderate rains on Wednesday afternoon after the scorching heat of the past few days. Due to heavy rains in various parts of the city around midnight, the heat subsided and pleasant weather prevailed in Coimbatore, today.

But on the flip side, roads in areas like Ukkadam, Race Course, Singanallur, Ramanathapuram, Peelamedu and Kalapatti were flooded due to heavy rains.

Water accumulated under the bridge near the railway station and under the bridge near Kikani School on Mettupalayam Road. The common man was hardest hit by the water logging on main roads, including the Ukkadam bypass, especially in the early hours of a working day.

Motorists were at a loss on how to wade through the stagnant water. The Meteorological Department has announced that summer rains will continue to lash the city for a few more days.
