Special poojas for Tamil New Year and Vishu held in Hindu temples with strict social distancing

Coimbatore: Special poojas were held at famous temples in Coimbatore on the occasion of Tamil New Year being celebrated today.

The special poojas were held at the Koniamman Temple, Puliakulam Vinayagar Temple and Sidhapudur Ayyappan Temple. In the special pooja held for Puliyakulam Vinayagar, obeisance was made with fruits like mangoes, jackfruits, bananas, apples and oranges.

With COVID-19 cases being on the rise again, the preventive measures taken by the state of Tamil Nadu are in force and only a small number of devotees at the Koniyamman and Puliakulam temples were allowed for 'darshan' provided they had face masks along with social distancing.

Next to the Sabarimala Ayyappan Temple, the Sidhapudur Ayyappan Temple in Coimbatore was thronged by Malayalees living in Coimbatore who stood in long queues wearing masks and worshipped on account of Vishu. The public was allowed into the temple only after their body temperatures had been checked and ensuring all had their face masks on.
