Aliyar Monkey Falls' depleted look causes lull in tourist influx into Pollachi

Coimbatore: Aliyar Monkey Falls near Pollachi has been a huge tourist attraction in Coimbatore district for both locals as well as those from other districts and states. The Monkey Falls spot had been cordoned off during the lockdown period as well as for a major part of last year.

The tourist spot has been reopened for public recently but due to lack of sufficient rainfall in the last few months, especially at the Sakthi estate and Kavarakkal which are currently the catchment areas of the Monkey Falls, it is reported that the water source has been depleted at the Monkey Falls leaving just a glimpse of bare rocks.

This has further caused a lull in the number of tourists visiting Pollachi which had already fallen to an all-time low owing to the pandemic and restrictions on tourists visiting Tamil Nadu. Tourists visiting the Monkey Falls area have been instructed by the Forest Department to wear face masks as a precautionary measure against COVID 19 infection.
