Southern Railway turns 500 coaches into COVID-19 wards amid second wave of virus

COVID-19 cases were first reported in India last year and a lockdown was announced to control it. The second wave of the virus has begun this year.


Coimbatore: The COVID-19 cases were first reported in India last year and a lockdown was announced to control it. To prevent the spread bus, train and flight transportation was stopped but the cases continued to rise with no place for us to get treatment.

As a way to solve the insufficiency of beds, rail coaches were turned into COVID-19 treatment centres. Later they were brought to their original state when the numbers began to gradually decrease.

Now, the second wave of COVID-19 is on the rise and officials are involved in taking measures to tackle any extremes. Accordingly, the railway coaches in India are under preparations to be turned into COVID-19 wards.

Around 500 coaches are kept ready by the Southern Railways along with coaches which were earlier in use. The Southern Railway Department has announced that they will deliver the coaches if requested by the health department to cater to the patients.
