SI attacks customers in a hotel; owner submits petition with District Collector in Coimbatore

Hotel owner has submitted the petition seeking departmental action against the officials involved in such acts and protection of the public and traders.

Coimbatore: Police Assistant Inspector Muthu, who entered a private restaurant near the Coimbatore Gandhipuram bus stand last night claimed that it was operating beyond the time limit set by the government and attacked the public and the staff working there. Following this, the hotel owner has filed a complaint against the police who assaulted.

The COVID-19 infection prevention measures are being actively implemented across the state. On account of this, the police have asked the hotel owner to shut down shops by 10 PM. But the owner kept the shutter half-closed and was serving the passengers from Hosur.

Seeing this, Sub-inspector Muthu entered the shop at around 10.20 PM while the customers were eating and attacked them with a lathi. He also attacked those working in the shop and ordered the customers to leave. The hotel employee was injured near his eye in the attack. This incident has completely been recorded in CCTV footage.

With the footage as evidence, Sub-Inspector Muthu, who assaulted people, has been transferred. And Mohanraj, the owner of the restaurant, said that the transfer of the police officer who carried out the attack was not only an adequate action and demanded that a case should be registered against the police officer who assaulted them.

Mohanraj accused that such a vicious attack on those who complied with the government rule that said shops can operate till 11 PM is similar to the incident that took place in Sathankulam, Thoothukudi district.

The hotel owner has lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore District Collector seeking departmental action against the officials involved in such acts and protection of the public and traders.
