Corporation Officials are taking strict actions to contain the spread effectively.
Coimbatore: The COVID-19 cases have spiked again in the Coimbatore district. Yesterday, around 501 people were identified as COVID-19 positive. Including the number of people who have isolated themselves at their homes, there are a total of 3677 persons infected by COVID-19 so far in the city.
The Coimbatore Corporation Officials have increased security in the Karuppana Gounder Street after 5 people from the same house have contracted the virus. Rapid testing is also done for other residents from the area.
Yesterday, in an effort to control the second wave of the COVID-19 virus, the Tamil Nadu Government has ordered the corporation officials to take various measures.
Accordingly, Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian and other officials were patrolling near the areas of Townhall, Thiyagi Kumaran Market, Gandhipuram Town Bus Stand, Crosscut road, Omnibus stand, 100ft road and other areas.
During the rounds, the public who were seeing without wearing masks and violating other COVID-19 protocols were fined Rs 200 per person. Following that, Central Zone Corporation Commissioner Sivasubramanian and other health department officials participated in an inspection in the areas of the Ukkadam Bus Stand and fined the public and other shopkeepers with Rs 200 per person for violating Covid-19 guidelines.
Public who were travelling in the bus without wearing face masks were fined on the spot and were asked to get down from the bus on failing to pay the fine. Overcrowded busses were also given a warning.
To contain the spread of COVID-19, corporation and health department officials are visiting houses and are conducting tests for people with Covid-19 symptoms.
Only 8 labs in Coimbatore were used for testing last year but now, around 25 labs have been instructed to conduct tests this year. Because of this, around 12,000 to 20,000 tests can be carried out every day.
Corporation officials are involved in creating awareness in public places and other social gathering areas about the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
