Voters from remote forest areas will be assisted by forest department officials and emergency personnel to reach polling stations, says The Nilgiris Collector Innocent Divya

There are 3 state assembly constituencies in The Nilgiris including Coonoor, Ooty and Gudalur.


The Nilgiris: District Collector Innocent Divya announced, "A total of 868 election booths have been set-up across The Nilgiris district. In these, around 112 polling stations have been identified as tension zones and a live web streaming service has been scheduled to happen tomorrow."

She also said that nodal officers have been appointed at the tension zones. It is also noted that around 5700 officials are involved in election duty.

In the 3 assembly constituencies namely Ooty, Coonoor and Gudalur, there are a total of 5,86,950 voters out of which 3992 voters have cast through postal ballot. Around 2490 old and sick people have voted by postal ballot out of which, 2276 people have already filed their votes. The remaining voters can cast their votes before May 2nd.



Innocent Divya also said, "For voters from remote areas to carry out their duty without any hardships, an arrangement has been made with the help of the Government Transportation Department. Forest officials and emergency personnel are deployed to help people residing in hilly areas to reach their polling stations."

There are a total of 3,845 machines including EVM's, VPAT machines and monitoring machines. These voting machines were sent to the respective polling stations today. They were first sent to Thengumarahada, Karikaiyur polling stations which are located in remote areas.

"In Nilgiris, a total of Rs 2.46 crore rupees have been seized so far. In that, Rs 2 crores have been settled with their owners. Also, around 60 cases have been filed so far for violating election rules and conduct, added District Collector.
