Coimbatore: Age is just a number for veteran DMK candidate V M Shanmugasundaram who has his eyes firmly set on first resolving all basic civic issues plaguing the constituency and heralding in development for the Coimbatore North constituency.

If elected to power, V M Shanmugasundaram has ambitious plans lined up for the Coimbatore North constituency and promises a complete transformation which he feels has been lacking in the constituency for many years now.

In conversation with SimpliCity, amidst his hectic campaigning schedule, V M Shanmugasundaram highlights that the Coimbatore North constituency lacks basic amenities. Thus, topping his list of priorities would be to ensure that the people of the 19 wards of the Coimbatore North constituency have access to basic facilities like drinking water, good roads, sanitation and effective waste management among others.

“There will be as many as 3,36,804 people who exercise their right to vote during the forthcoming elections. I want to make sure that each and every individual elects a leader who has worked for the people of the region. As far as I am concerned, I let my work do the talking," opined V M Shanmugasundaram.

Shedding further light on his plans if given an opportunity to serve the people, V M Shanmugasundaram detailed his wish list of projects which included construction of storm water drainage canals to expedite the blockage of the underground sewerage project and clear the sewers.

"Water is the axis of life. Sadly, people of the Coimbatore North constituency have been denied uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water for many years. All this is set to change. If voted to power, I will ensure the problem of drinking water throughout the blocks will be solved and steps will be taken to make clean drinking water available without any hindrance,” promised V M Shanmugasundaram.

On the other civic issues that the constituency has to deal with on a day-to-day basis, V M Shanmugasundaram promises to implement a feasible solution to reduce traffic congestion on Lawley Road, Mettupalayam Road, Sathyamangalam Road and Ganapati areas, besides upgrading bus stops throughout the block.

“The pandemic that we have been through has taught us how important health is. Keeping the health of people in mind, if voted to power, being the candidate of the party representing the rising sun, I can assure that primary health care facilities will be set up for people in Coimbatore North constituency to avail," he added.

Moving the focus to development plans that were on the cards, V M Shanmugasundaram aims to upgrading facilities around the Marudhamalai temple, thus transforming it into a spiritual tourist destination. "An informal Labour Welfare Board office will be set up since there are more small scale industries in the Coimbatore North constituency. Among other development plans, I assure that a Co-operative Bank will be set up to facilitate the growth of small businesses and make raw materials (SYAs) easily available.

An multi-storey industrial estate will be set up in the area where factories are located. An entrepreneurship training center will also be set up and women's self-help groups will be empowered to function better. Refrigerated warehousing will be set up in wholesale vegetable markets like MGR Market and Anna Market. A high-tech park will be set up in the constituency. New Women's College of Arts and Sciences will be opened. Artificial pools with parks will be set up for public recreation and tourism.

Corporation playground and swimming pool will be developed for public entertainment and student training. A computerized e-library will be also be open to facilitate training," detailed an ambitious V M Shanmugasundaram whose heart seems to improve the standard of living for his constituency people.

"All I require is an opportunity to translate my dreams for this constituency into a reality. Let the 'sun' rise in the Coimbatore North constituency," concluded V M Shanmugasundaram.
