"In unity, we will defeat the riot specialists:" assures Kamal Haasan to shopkeepers in the city affected by BJP rally
Coimbatore: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath arrived in Coimbatore on Wednesday to campaign in support of BJP candidate Vanathi Srinivasan, who is contesting from Coimbatore South constituency. BJP cadres in thousands of vehicles carrying saffron flags travelled across the city to welcome him.
Due to the procession which passed through the Town Hall which is the city's thriving shopping area , shops in the area were asked to down shutters. The BJP cadres also resorted to violently calling for Muslim shops to be shut immediately and chanted slogans. Those who pelted stones at the shops were also caught in the act by the media.
Kamal Haasan, Chairman of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and a candidate of the Coimbatore South constituency condemned the incidents. He also tweeted saying, "In unity, we will defeat the riot specialists."
Kamal Haasan also visited the VM footwear store where trouble had been caused by the BJP rioters to express support to the shopkeeper. He also bought footwear at the store.
Kamal Haasan's timely expression of solidarity with the shopkeepers in the area was well received by the merchants there. In unison, they chanted in support of Kamal Haasan, also expressing regret that such incidents are becoming commonplace in the city to disrupt social harmony.
Kamal Haasan assured the merchants that their social enemies who assume that they can profit by inciting violence between the Hindus and Muslims will soon be defeated.
