DMK-AIADMK party members clash: Activist Sabarimala raises questions on women's security in Pollachi

Activist Sabarimala met witht the press following the recent DMK and AIADMK members clash at a campaign near Pollachi.

Coimbatore: Social Activist Sabarimala, who has been participating in the campaigns for DMK candidate for Pollachi constituency K Varadarajan held a press meet today, following the recent clash of DMK-AIADMK members.

Sabarimala told, "I am a social activist who strives for women's safety. As a team, we are campaigning to create awareness among the public so that we do not have to witness another case like the Pollachi sexual assault. But, when women social activists like me do not have security here, how will the college students be safe?"

Sabarimala referred to the DMK-AIADMK clash that recently took place in Okkilipalayam village, where she was campaigning for the DMK party. She accused AIADMK of attacking the members and said, "They are threatening us and attacking but I am worried if they also do this with common people."

Adding, she said, "AIADMK members who have daughters are extremely angry about this and I am not scared of the ruling party for such threatening cases. That is exactly why AIADMK members are making false accusations on DMK candidate Dr Varadharajan. I accuse that they are doing this to bring him down."

The highlight of this press meet was her comments on the on-going case. "The police who took up the case did not ask me for any statements. Then how can they proceed with the case? And on another note, the case is now handled by CBI. They have taken AIADMK members under custody. Until then, who were protecting them?" she questioned.

Sabarimala also appealed to the press that since she is campaigning about it the case, the false cases lodged on her must be withdrawn.

The DMK-AIADMK members were charged for their connection with the crash that took place on March 28 in Okkilipalayam village near Pollachi, Coimbatore. A few members from AIADMK were injured too. The Vadakkipalayam police have registered a case against both the party members who were present at the scene and it is under investigation.
