Coimbatore: At the “Meet Your Candidates” event held at the Chambers tower in the city, Congress leader and MLA candidate for Coimbatore South constituency, Mayura Jayakumar today assured that he would make use of CSR funds to improve the infrastructure of Corporate and Government schools in his constituency, if voted to power.

Besides promising to fulfil basic requirements of his constituency, Mayura stressed on the importance of education and highlighted that the Government College in the city itself lacked proper infrastructure and departments.

Addressing the inability of the ruling government to raise Government-owned institutions, Mayura promised that he would work to improve and add more courses to the Government College.

Pointing out the unused railway tracks between Pollachi and Coimbatore, Mayura Jayakumar assured that the tracks will be used to aid in decreasing traffic congestion.

When Mayura Jayakumar promised to build a business development centre for jewellery makers and weavers at the Somasundaram Mill which had been left unused for years, he was interrupted by the AMMK MLA candidate Durai who said that it would not be possible to do that. "I am talking about my plans," retorted Jayakumar.

Citing that Coimbatore had become a place for religious riots, Mayura Jayakumar assured that everybody wanted peace and harmony and hence he would set up a committee to ensure just that, both in his constituency as well as across Coimbatore. He also reiterated on the importance of installing more CCTVs in his constituency for the safety of women and curb chain snatchers.

Other candidates from the DMK, ADMK, BJP, AMMK and MNM elaborated on their plans for the execution of development projects for the city. While Makkal Needhi Maiyam’s MLA candidate Dr. R Mahendran spoke about ensuring protection of the environment, other candidates who attended the event ended up highlighting the mistakes committed during each other's tenure.
