Double life imprisonment convict Rajavelu commits sucide at the Central Prison in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A lawyer couple - Rajavelu and Mohana were sentenced to double life imprisonment for killing a girl named Ammavasai by burning her to death. They were both held at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Sometime earlier today, an announcement was made by the Central Prison Department that convict Rajavelu committed suicide.
Police officials said, "Around 2 years back, a girl named Ammavasai came to the lawyer's office seeking for Rajavelu. He killed the girl by burning her to death and claimed that it was his wife who killed herself. But his wife Mohana, who was involved in a scam for cheating more than Rs. 1 crore through a financial institution in Andhra Pradesh was on the run."
In order to save his wife, Rajavelu had killed Ammavasai and got a death certificate stating that his wife is dead. Through this crime, he was able to save his wife.
Police officials were simultaneously investigating the missing case of Ammavasai. In the investigation, it was revealed that Rajavelu and his driver were behind the murder of Ammavasai. A few months before, the court sentenced Rajavelu, his wife Mohana and his driver for double life imprisonment.
The Prison Department had released a statement saying that the convict Rajavelu has committed suicide in prison today evening. "Racecourse Police officials have filed a case regarding this and are investigating the death," they added.
Rajavelu's prison death has caused a stir among the people near the central prison in Coimbatore.
