Coimbatore: At about 10 AM on Thursday morning, the Humane Animal Society (HAS) which is a non-profit trust that was established to address the welfare of stray animals in the city of Coimbatore received a call from a source who did not wish to disclose identity.

The person informed HAS about the cruelty being meted out to two female stray dogs on the tennis court of the PSG Hospitals campus in Peelamadu, here. The caller tipped off the HAS volunteer that the dogs' mouths and legs were tied.
A team of HAS volunteers immediately swung into action and reached the PSG Hospitals campus. On disclosing their identity, the team was denied entry into the campus by the guard who was on duty. However, one of the volunteers managed to convince the security guard about the purpose of the visit after which they rushed to the tennis court to rescue the stray dogs.
“Both the female dogs are between one-and-a-half to three years old and are very friendly animals. We are assuming that the dogs were left under the scorching sun for anywhere between five to six hours. When we began rescuing them, we found that they were dehydrated and motionless,” disclosed V Aravindan, one of the volunteers of the HAS rescue team while talking to SimpliCity.
As part of the rescue operation, the thick ropes that were tied to the limbs of the dogs and their mouths was first removed. The dogs were reportedly unable to even move for a few minutes after being freed. The team of volunteers comforted the animals that had been traumatised and were then transported to the HAS shelter located in Seeranaickenpalayam. The rescued animals are being given the best of medical treatment and are currently under observation.
"When we rescued the friendly animals, we noticed that their limbs were swollen since they had been tied for many hours. However, 24-hours post their rescue, the medical condition of the two stray dogs has improved. However, the medical report from the veterinary doctor who is treating the stray dogs is still awaited. Once the dogs are stable, medically fit and back on their feet, HAS plans to invite the public to adopt them.," stated the HAS volunteer.
Despite being saddened by the cruel treatment that the dogs had undergone at the campus of the renowned PSG Hospitals, HAS has no plans of taking the legal route to fight against the cruelty meted out to the dogs.
SimpliCity made several attempts to reach out to the spokesperson of the PSG Group for a comment on this disturbing incident having occurred in the campus of a hospital, but all attempts have been in vain.
