Chandramohan, who was injured by the Bison at his stomach during the attack, died on the spot.
The Nilgiris: Chandramohan (42) from Karpet, Panati village in Kotagiri in The Nilgiris is a drinking water supplier for the village. He was on his way to turn the water supply for the village, when a wild gaur which was in hiding attacked Chandramohan suddenly.
Chandramohan, who was injured by the gaur in his stomach during the attack, died on the spot. Later his wife, on seeing the water not distributed to the houses went near the well to have a look but was shocked to see her husband being dead with severe injuries to his stomach.
On the sounds made by Chandramohan's wife, the villagers then recovered Chandramohan and took him to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Police officials have filed a case regarding this incident and are investigating it further. Deceased Chandramohan has a 15 year old girl and a 12 year old son.
Villagers in the area then requested the forest officials to protect the farmers and the people as there is an increased wildlife activity.
Forest officials then made an announcement that a relief amount of Rs 4 lakhs will be given to the family of Chandramohan and Rs 50,000 will be given to her initially.
