Giving symbols before 15 days is not fair: It will help only big parties - independent candidates from Coimbatore

Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers Association (KOPMA) President, K Maniraj is contesting in the upcoming elections at the Singanallur constituency.

Coimbatore: While all the political parties have begun their election works. An independent candidate has alleged that giving symbol to contest before 15 days will not help them, rather it will only benefit the big parties who are already established.

Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers Association (KOPMA) President, K Maniraj said, "Each time during elections some peoples from various sectors will come forward to contest in their constituency. For the first time in Coimbatore myself being a micro industrialist , I am contesting in the upcoming election in Singanallur constituency as an Independent Candidate.

But the Election Commission said that they will allocate the symbol only after March 20th. The poll date is on April 6th. Just think how difficult it would be for independent candidates like me to get my symbol to the people. I have already started my campaign. At present I am requesting voters to remember my name. The delay in giving symbols to independent candidates will only help the big political parties since they are already established among the people. I request the election commission to assign the symbols as soon as possible which would alone make the independent candidates to show more impact. Otherwise it will be just like a namesake right given for all to compete in the elections."He said.
