One kg gold nugget in the shape of a mobile phone seized from passenger in Coimbatore Airport

Cops arrested a man from Sharjah who arrived at the Coimbatore International Airport smuggling 1kg of gold nuggets in the shape of a mobile phone.



Coimbatore:A passenger on a flight from Sharjah to Coimbatore was arrested by customs officials at the Coimbatore International Airport after he carried 999 grams of gold nuggets in the form of a mobile phone and hid them in his hand luggage.

An Air Arabia flight from Sharjah landed at Coimbatore International Airport at 3.30 am today. At that time, the security officers who were there checking the passengers also checked Balu from Sivagangai. During his checking officials found gold nuggets in the shape of a mobile phone which was hidden in a cell phone cover and taken along with the hand baggage.

When weighed the bar of gold was at 999 kilograms and had a total value of 47.65 lakhs. Subsequently, the authorities interrogated Balu from Sivagangai and later arrested him and later released him on bail. Officials stated that the confiscated gold will be returned back to him post submitting relevant documents.

This incident early in the morning, created a tense situation at the Coimbatore International Airport premises.
