State Assembly Election 2021: Elections to be held on April 27 in Tamil Nadu - Election Commission of India
State assembly elections 2021 will he held for all 234 constituencies on April 6 - Election Commission of India. Moral code of conduct will come into effect from today, February 26.
New Delhi: The Election Commissioner of India (ECI), Sunil Arora on Friday evening has announced the much-awaited schedule for assembly elections -- 294 seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, 126 seats in Assam and 30 seats in the Union Territory of Puducherry.
The terms of the legislative assemblies in four states – Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and West Bengal – are nearing their end in May and June. As many as 824 constituencies will go to polls.
As per the ECI, elections for all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 6, 2021. 88,596 polling stations will be setup in TN for the elections.
In Tamil Nadu, the elections will be aclose contest between the ruling AIADMK and arch rival DMK. Presently, out of 234 seats in the house --124 are from the AIADMK, while the DMK has 97.

Last date of scrutiny - 19th March
Last date of withdrawal - 22nd March
Date of poll - 6th April
Date of counting - May 2.
Despite COVID-19 vaccine making inroads across India, the election will be held adhering to strict Covid-19 guidelines. The Election Commission said that they have taken all measures keeping in mind the Corona Protocol. Full management of the security forces has been done.
In view of the growing case of Corona in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the biggest challenge before the Election Commission is to conduct the election. Hence, overall in all states door-do-door campaigning has been restricted to 5 persons, polling stations reduced to 1,000 from 1,500, and also polling stations to be on ground floors. And, concept of ‘absentee voters’ introduced as an option to senior citizens and to people in essential services.
Volunteers will be assigned at all voting booths to assist the differently-abled voters to cast their votes. Special facilities for disabled people will be done across all polling stations. Basic amenities like toilets, drinking water facility, sanitisers, face masks, ramps will be made available at all booths, the Election Commissioner said.
