Coimbatore: AIADMK Minister SP Velumani today inaugurated a ₹71.68 crore rupees drinking water supply plan in the areas of Kovaipudur, Mullai Nagar at the South Zone of Coimbatore. He then inaugurated the newly constructed overhead tank which has a capacity of 2.50 lakh liters at a cost of Rs 75.64 lakh in the 89th Ward of Sundakkamuthur and Anbu Nagar in Coimbatore.
Kurichi and Kuniyamuthur areas which are newly added under the Coimbatore Corporation, were to be given drinking water supply connection under phase 2 scheme which is estimated at a cost of Rs 165.43 crores.Although Coimbatore is already provided with water from Pillur, Siruvani and Aliyar, the newly joined areas have been supplied with 70 litres of water per day / per person for every 6-8 days.
Inorder to provide drinking water evenly every two days for the people of Kuniyamuthur, water is to be supplied from a water tank built at a budget of ₹71.68 crores. Under this project high pressure water will be supplied to people at a basis of 135 liters per day per person thus enabling the people to have access to drinking water supply in 2-4 days.
The project involves the installation of a 15.00 lakh liter capacity ground level tank near the Coimbatore section at 35.02 14m Siruvani water supply with the help of a new electric motor from there through 15.20 km long pipes will be transported to the newly constructed 20 lakh liter main balance tank at Pillayarpuram area.
With 237.63 km of pipelines currently in operation, new housing plumbing will provide 65.20 km of pipelines that have been installed in these areas through the newly constructed overhead tanks and distribution pipes. In addition new supply connections have been given to 20,000 houses.
