11-hour delay in retrieving dead body due to police station border issue

Coimbatore: Public were angered as there was a 11-hour delay in retrieving dead body due to police station limit confusion. In Coimbatore, a man was strangled to death with a plastic cover over his face near Nagarajapuram yesterday morning.

It was reported to the police and the body was sent to the Coimbatore Government Hospital after 8 pm due to a limit dispute. So the people of that area got angry as the body, which was lying in the Narasampathy pond in Coimbatore, was recovered by the police after 11 a.m. due to a border dispute between the police station.

Vadavalli police were informed at 7:00 am yesterday that the body was lying in the Narasampathy pond on Perur Road, Nagarajapuram, Coimbatore. The body was found with a plastic cover over his head and tied with a rope. Vadavalli police informed the Selvapuram police as it was under the Selvapuram police station. The Selvapuram police who arrived there went on to say that the area where the body was lying was not within their boundaries. Vadavalli police station is in Coimbatore rural area and Selvapuram is in Coimbatore city area. Due to the station limits confusion, 11 hours later, both police stations took the body.

In the evening, at 6:00 pm, both City Police and Rural Police arrived at the scene and Vadavalli police seized the body and sent it to Coimbatore Government Hospital. The scene was inspected by City Deputy Commissioner Stalin.

Vadavalli police said, 'The body was not found at the Vadavalli station boundary. However, as it was evening time, we seized the body and filed a case. The case will be transferred to the Selvapuram police station. So the public in that area was outraged. They complained as it took so long to make a decision about the police station."
