Over 2500 Badagas from 18 villages including Ilithurai, Edapalli and Pettati took part in a protest todayby demonstrating carrying a black flag.
The Nilgiris: The Nilgiris District is home to the famous Bethala Hethaiamman Temple. It is said that the 3 temple priests behave in a disrespectful manner to the public violating village rules and regulations.
Hence, Badaga people from 18 villages requested the priests to be changed. But even after the High Court's order and Coonoor Tahsildar's order the priest's have not been changed yet.
As a way of protest 2500 Badaga family members from 18 villages including Ilithurai, Edapalli and Pettati took part in a protest todayby hoisting black flags at their houses.
Irian, leader of the 18 villages told media people that "We are going to boycott the upcoming elections and will also return our ration cards if this issue is not resolved immediately by the District Officials.”
