Coimbatore: Tamilnadu Electricity Board Engineers Union's General Secretary Govindarajan interacted with the media at the Coimbatore Press Club.
During his address Govindarajan stated that "Tamilnadu Electricity Board in 2010 was split into two organizations under the government's order. With the assets and liabilities changed to organizations the order for the transfer of employees has been delayed for 10 years now.
As a way of assurance to the employees, the government must make a resolution to the workers unions that it will implement retirement pension schemes and other schemes.
We visited the Tamilnadu Electricity Minister multiple times last year and requested for an immediate response to the concerns by the employees but no actions have been taken till now.
Post the electricity board being privatised and over 1,60,000 crores rupees have been under loss because of the newly hired private employees. Government has decided to give the electricity board to the private sector even after the huge loss.
Tamilnadu government has also decided to increase the rate for electricity to manage the loss. It hasn't been announced yet because of the upcoming assembly elections. This year electricity charges are bound to get higher. It is impossible to manage the loss by just increasing the charges for electricity.
Losses can be only managed by replacing the private employees by the government employees. There was no loss from when the electricity board started till 2003, till the electricity board was privatized. Public must understand this is the reason behind the electricity board worker's concern against the government. By the government's decision common people and families of government Electricity Board employees will be affected."
Tamilnadu Electricity Board Engineers Union's General Secretary Govindarajan then said that "Requesting the government to implement our various requests we are planning for meetings across Tamilnadu. It is scheduled to happen in Madurai tomorrow followed by a meeting in Chennai on 11th February and a meeting on 19th February in Villupuram. The meeting will then happen in Trichy on 20th February." He said.
