Mixopathy: Coimbatore IMA starts 14-day hunger strike

Registering their strong condemnation against “Mixopathy”, members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) across the nation announced a 14-day relay hunger strike from February 1.

In line with it, IMA Coimbatore members joined the protest by kick-starting the hunger strike at IMA office at Syrian Church road, here on Monday. The shift in the government policy of encouraging a new method called mixopathy is dangerous, they slammed.

"Besides, Women Wing Doctors Association and Students Wing of IMA joining the protest, he have also requested Indian Dental Association (IDA) to participate in the hunger strike,as IDA have also been denied timely recognition and various benefits", said the newly elected IMA Coimbatore Branch President Dr.V. Rajesh Babu.

Dr. Ravikumar, Secretary for IMA Tamil Nadu in the presence of President-elect Dr R. Palaniswamy said that over 100 locations have been chosen across Tamil Nadu for this protest. And, members will go on a bike rally, to create awareness among public about the new policy of Mixopathy.

The NITI Ayog has formed a total of four teams to bring up the new policy in which as a result there will not be integrated medicine system by 2030, alleged Dr. Ravikumar.

Students Wing of IMA from Coimbatore Medical College also expressed their concern and opined that if the bill gets passed it will be them who will be affected after completing their studies.

IMA called on all doctors association to participate in the relay hunger strike against allowing Ayurveda doctors practicing modern medicine and to withdraw against a Central Council of Indian Medicine notification which authorises post-graduate practitioners in specified streams of Ayurveda to be trained to perform general surgical procedures.
