Suicide by a micro industrialist at Coimbatore before two days inside his industry premises has given a big shock to the entire sector. Micro industrialists lament that when a farmer dies it becomes a big impact. whereas no impact is seen when a micro industrialist commits suicide which is not good for national development.

Yesuraj aged 47 years was a resident of Thaneerpandhal, Peelamedu. He was running a Lathe workshop in the name 'Suguna Engineering Lathe Workshop' at Irugur.

On January 28, he committed suicide by hanging himself inside the industry premises.

His wife Suguna Devi gave complaint to Singanalur police in which lack of sufficient income from the industry was mentioned as the reason for Yesuraj suicide.

Speaking on this incident, Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Spares Manufacturers Association(KOPMA) President, K. Maniraj said, "Industry sector stands next to Agriculture in providing job opportunities to many people's. Coimbatore is called as industrial city in which more than 1.5 lakh registered industries and more than 30,000 micro industries established across the district.

More than 8 lakh people have got employment opportunities in the manufacturing industries. Since there is no Public sector industries in Coimbatore, Almost all the micro industries in this region are surviving by getting job orders from big private industries functioning in the district.

'Covid- 19' pandemic outbreak has made a big impact in the micro industries sector. Inspite the relaxations given under lockdown by the government still the abnormal price hike of raw materials has hit all the micro industries in getting job orders.

On the other side the pressure given by banks in receiving the interest for the loans offered has added more burden on industrialists.

Two days before a micro industrialist named Jesuraj at Coimbatore who was running a lathe workshop at Irugur committed suicide by hanging himself inside his industry premises.

This incident is very shocking and the main reason for his decision is due to lack of sufficient job orders.

All the micro industrialists are deeply saddened. But this incident did not made any impact. Whereas if a farmer commit suicide inside the agriculture filed it would have considered as a big loss to the nation. Both agriculture and Industry sector have equal importance in the nations development.

Hence both the state and the central governments should give proper importance I'm addressing the issues faced by the industrialists.

Banks charge only 4% for agriculture loans whereas 10 to 14% interest rates are charged for loans availed by industrialists. Government should take steps ensuring micro industrialists get loans at lower interest rates.

Banks should lay off all the interest charged on bank loans by industrialists from March 2020 till September 2020. Also the central government should take steps to fix MRP for raw materials and also ensure raw materials are available at affordable prices throughout the year. Each micro industrialist death is a big loss to the overall development. Hence government should form a special committee for addressing Micro industries sector."
