Chennai Hospital Chairman death: Family members suspect foul play; protest in GH

Family members of Dr Umashankar, Chairman of Chennai refused to take the body and participated in a demonstration.


Coimbatore: Chennai Hospital Chairman Dr Umashankar was killed in an accident yesterday near Kannapa Nagar, Coimbatore.

Relatives of Dr. Uma Shankar allege that the accident was a planned hit and had refused to take the body to perform last rights.

 It is said that Dr. Ramachandran of Ellen Hospital in Gandhipuram rented the hospital building to Dr. Uma Shankar for 10 years.

Since Dr. Uma Shankar refused to pay the rent and tried to sublet the hospital venue, Dr. Ramachandran filed a case against Dr Umashankar who was then arrested and sent to prison.

Dr. Uma Shankar who was out on bail was ordered to report at the Rathinapuri police station everyday. Unfortunately Dr Umashankar was killed in an accident when a car hit him near Kannapa Nagar.









Thudiyalur Police officials are further investigating the case by probing at different issues. However, Dr Umashankar's relatives have denied to recover the body and asked the police authorities to interrogate Dr. Ramachandran of Ellen Hospital.

Relatives then participated in a demonstration at the Coimbatore government hospital and did not disperse even after the police officials tried to convince them.

Dr. Uma Shankar's relatives who are protesting at the hospital said that they won't disperse unit Dr. Ramachandran is taken for investigation.
